Chicago - It was a scorcher here in Chicago today, but that didn't stop some of the very best players in the country showcase their talents. Here is a quick look at some of the players who shined at the practice today. The practice was held at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
Dante Bichette, Jr.- Bichette came into the BP session with one objective: to hit home runs. The ball flies off his bat and he has some big power potential. He tried to lift every ball out of the park, which led to some over-swings. He hit a couple homers, and showed some of the hardest contact of any player in attendance. A big bat to watch.
Addison Russell- Russell was very smooth at shortstop today. He is a pure athlete with quick hands and clean actions in the infield. He had an impressive BP session, lifting some balls out of the park and making some consistent, hard contact. He is a top level talent, who will graduate in 2012.
Brandon Nimmo- Nimmo showed impressive power today. He has a nice approach at the plate and is able to hit to all fields. He will need to impress as much as he can in the summer, because his high school does not have a baseball team.
Bubba Starling- A superb athlete who is a potential 5 tool player. Starling hit multiple balls over the left field fence with ease. He has plus power potential and is one of the top players in the nation. He is also committed to Nebraska as a quarterback.
Chris McFarland- McFarland is a fantastic athlete in his own right. The game seems easy to him, and he had a very solid BP session. He hits the ball hard to all fields, and he hit a couple balls off the scoreboard in left.
Dwight Smith, Jr.- The bat speed jumps out for Smith. He has a high leg kick, but generates some great power. He is one of the most advanced hitters in this class, and the power potential is there.
