TAMPA - Prospect Wire's Florida State Finals tournament eclipsed 100+ registered teams for the 2nd consecutive year.
The event takes place June 7-12, 2013 in the Sarasota/Bradenton area on the west coast of Florida. The Baltimore Orioles Ed Smith and Buck O'Neil complexes will play host to the 18U/16U, while IMG Academy and Pittsburgh Pirate City will play host to the 16U and 14U divisions.
The event began with humble beginnings at beautiful FIU Baseball Stadium and Monsignor Pace High School in Miami, FL with just 16 teams. But the event has grown each and every year - becoming a mainstay on travel teams schedules.
"We think this year's event will be the best one yet," national tournament director Brian Werner said about the 6th annual event. "We continue to try and raise the bar on this event and remain on the cutting edge of how major tournaments are run."
One such is example is what the PW Staff have termed the World's Largest Amateur Baseball Combine. All 100+ teams will go through a combine and information gathering process that allows colleges and scouts to have detailed player information in their hands while they are scouting the actual games.
"We ran 1,680 players through our combine last year," PW founder Matt Bomeisl said. "Believe me when I say it takes a tremendous amount of organization and expense to get that done. And the whole reason that we go through all of that is because we don't want a single player to attend our event that didn't benefit from it."
Prospect Wire's combine involves a few different stations of information gathering as well as skills testing at the Orioles Ed Smith Stadium. A video shot last year can be viewed here that shows the basics of the combine.
"We recognize the expense that families take on to attend a showcase tournament like this," national director Corey Goldfarb said. "And all of the attention gets paid to the high end guys. Scouting reports are written about them, they get invited to side showcases, they get all of the college interest, and so many good players are left unnoticed. The Combine is one way to try and help these guys stand out and gather information on them that few others seem to bother getting. If the combine process helps just one additional player stand out, then the additional expense and organization is well worth it."
The event this year is a 4-game guarantee highlighted by annual powerhouses All American Prospects, Bullets Baseball, Chet Lemon's Juice, FTB, Gatorball, Next Level Tallahassee, Ostingers, Palm Beach PAL, SCORE Intl, SF Breakers and more.
