Playoff/Consolation Day is Underway! TUESDAY JUNE 11TH
By: Matt Bomeisl |

SARASOTA - One of the most exciting days of any tournament is when the playoff round gets started and that is the case beginning at 2pm today in Sarasota, FL.

A few pool play games that were rained out throughout the week are concluding this morning - and that will finalize seeding and consolation games.  We can not finalize seeding and consolation games until we know who won the pool, runs allowed, who is sneaking in the wild card spots and who is getting left out.  Any time you have to finish up pool play games in the morning it creates a tough situation for scheduling - with some pools already being completed, and some still needing to be completed.

However, we are doing everything possible to keep the tournament format in tact to the best of our ability.  We kindly ask for your patience as we gather final scores from games, update the standings, figure out the adjusted wild card race, notify the teams who will be playing in playoffs, notify teams who will be eliminated, match up consolation opponents and playoff opponents, notify venues and umpires, coordinate PW staff and post the updated schedule onto the site.

Our tournament director, Brian Werner, is the best at what he does.  He answers every phone call, every email within minutes or seconds, and constantly updates coaches with timely announcements,  As a friendly reminder, the less phone calls and emails he receives, the quicker he can work with staff to do his job.  With each phone call that he receives, it slows down the entire process.

If it rains again today

If we get any rain during the playoff games today, one of the discussed adjustments has been to cancel the championship game and turn the semi-final games into championship games and name co-champions.  This would be done to end the tournament on the 12th, and to prevent the wreckless idea of some teams playing a quadruple header.

We will always err on the side of player safety before awarding a tournament championship.
