Tampa - Long days and even longer nights have gone into our latest 2016 Florida rankings. As always, our rankings are our scouting opinions on players. Rankings are never an exact science and some players will move up or down in our next rankings release. If we could see every position player play a dozen games and every pitcher throw 20 innings, it would make ranking players easier. The reality is, we may get to see players 2-3 times if we're lucky over the course of a summer.
Sometimes players show tools immediately and there's no denying their upside and potential talent. Pitchers can flash 90mph in one outing with an easy clean arm action and delivery. A position player can have a lightning quick bat and run a 4.0 sec down the line in one at-bat. It rarely happens where we can scout a player once and place him near the top of our rankings.
As we become more familiar with the 2016 class, it becomes more apparent which players are performing and separating themselves from the rest of the pack.
Our staff takes an extraordinary amount of pride in getting to know these players both as players and kids. The more we see these players play and get to know their work ethic, passion for the game, and baseball I.Q., the more accurate we can be in our assessments.
These latest rankings were especially fun for our staff since we've scouted most of these players for the past two years. The depth of talent at all positions in the 2016 grad class in Florida is definitely a welcome sight.
Look for updates on players profiles, reports, and new players added to the rankings as we head into the fall.
